TV Presenting

Presenter of Five’s Fifth Gear (2002-present).

Winner of the 2010 Broadcast Journalist of the Year, voted by the 'Headlineauto' judges made up by my peers within the motoring industry.

Presenter of BBC’s Top Gear (1998-2002) with Jeremy Clarkson, Tiff Needell and Quentin Wilson.

In 2002, the head of BBC2 decided to cancel Top Gear. Jeremy Clarkson had left one year earlier to pursue his chat show, so when Channel Five (as it was called then) asked Tiff, Quentin and I to launch a new car show for the station, we readily accepted and launched Fifth Gear.

Over the years I have driven some amazing bits of machinery which include a Formula One car, a 1000bhp racing lorry, a Jaguar jet fighter plane, and an A1 GP single seater racing car where I reached 198mph. I was the first TV journalist to be invited to drive the Pagani Zonda Roadster, and became the first woman behind the wheel of a Renault Laguna British Touring Car as part of a magazine track test in 1996.

I love my job!
